We stayed at the GHSB from 19 Jul until 01 Aug, the hotel was clean & most of the staff were plesant. The pool was too small for a hotel of its size, and the breakfasts were disgusting. I only went down twice & from what I had heard I didn't miss much. Dinner wasn't much better, the food was edible & nothing spectacular. Other than that the hotel was fine. The first few nights started okay, but we were soon left with nothing to do. We went to Nesebur twice and liked it there but there was nothing else to do. The place seemed corrupt & you didn't feel safe at night. Prostitutes approached any man who passed them. It is often thought as a great place ([+]view more) to go but I would never reccommend it to anyone!!!

we stayed here form 27th june-11th july 2005 and had a great holiday. the rooms are well sized and the bathrooms are good sized too. food was good was always something to eat and we all enjoyed what we had the receptionists and porters are very friendly especially peter who was very helpful, polite and caring.also the lady who takes your number at meal times was wonderful and loved the kids she was always making a fuss over them. the only complaint i have about the hotel is the lifts very tempremental and we were on the 6th floor and sometimes had to walk down the stairs(hard going with an 20month old toddler in a pushchair)and we also found the rep ([+]view more) not very helpful..eating out is dirt cheap for 6 adults and 3 kids its was never above 50 lev(less than £20).the shopping was great and if i had known what i know now i would have taken an empty case and filled it...ok its all fake but who cares...the beach is just a stones throw away and its spotless look out for the doughnut man you have to try a chocolate doughnut and its only 2 lev(80p)the fruit is also gr8 here try the pears..mmmmm.the nightlife is buzzing too the bars and clubs stay open 24hrs so gr8 for party animals.kids are welcome anywhere and the bulgarian people are so friendly it puts us to shame sometimes!!we enjoyed bulgaria so much we are going back next year havent decided where but if its back to the grand hotel we will have another gr8 holiday.

just returned from grand hotel in sunny beach, have to say it was a fantastic 2 weeks, food was edible (and not as bad as people make out) staff very friendly, rooms spotless. Bulgaria is the place to visit it is so cheap and the designer fakes are good quality, a visit to Tonys bar is a must if you enjoy singing, the hotel pool bar is fantastic if you go to the grand pool bar say hello to Pepe, Kristo, Mirra and Daisy they knom how to look after you.

June 6-20 2005..........Bulgaria's answer to Benidorm.Hotel clean, well kept. Pool too small, nowhere near enough room for the amount of guests. Resulting in utter chaos at breakfast and dinner, tables only laid for the first in, the rest get your own (if you can find somewhere to sit)Wardrobe door in room difficult to open and shut, only one small one to accomodate two people. First night opened balcony door, stood with handle in my hand....great! Lifts kept breaking down, resulting in people being stranded in between floors, or not able to get out at all. This was, I think, due to the fact that too many people were trying to use the lifts at once ([+]view more) (too many overloaded, breakdown.)Over 400 guests only 12 persons being able to access them at any one time. Food .......... let's just say it's predominently aimed at the Germans, and I bet if you asked them if they would buy what was served up, not many would say "yes". We ate in the hotel about 3 times for dinner the rest of the two weeks we ate out. 18 leva for two sunbeds and a parasol on the beach, over £6. Rained for 6 out of 14 days, nowt to do, as the streets become flowing rivers that take ages to subside. Saw the local Mafia collecting money off the sunbed guy, and the ice-cream seller, but they're not a problem. You tend to get a bit fed up when walking round, as all the resturants have people outside trying to get you in, very much like Turkey. The hotel would struggle to get a 2 star rating in Britain, the resort is pretty clean, the Bulgarians are very friendly people. Would go back to Bulgaria, but not Sunny Beach, not in June. If you are going visit The Pub attached to The Grand, say hello to Maya, Sunny and Yana. Get a chain on that wallet Maya.........................

We had a two week stay from 3/10/04-17/10/04 at this hotel which arriving at 12.30am we found a smiling welcome from the receptionist on duty we found our rooms very comfortable and clean along with the ensuite bathroom we had a side view looking along to nearby Nessebur. We found the hotel at night quite which is ideal for families with young children, all hotel staff were friendly and helpful the pool had loads of inflateable toys available for the kids including a dingy our daughter was in the pool twice as we were away on 2x2day excursions to Sofia and instanbul and the weather our second week was a bit on chilly side. We found the food was ok ([+]view more) for first 2 days then we found it to be repetitive german orientated i.e german sausages cheeses etc for breakfast although there was cereals and toast available we were HB but we ate out at night quite a bit because our evening meal sweets were always gateaux's pastries etc and the stomache can only take so much and the food was luke warm you only get the coffee and juice vending machine's on at breakfast you have to buy your drinks in evening meal as they are not on. Our meals towards the end of our holiday's were hot and better choice the reason for this I'm not sure there were only a few tourists left in our hotel so maybe this is why. Eating out is very cheap our best places were the Pizza Place, The Tropicana and the restruant across street from the hotel at front for eve meals and the Tropicana and Bobby's Cafe for lunches. We found every thing shuts up second week in October including Dolphinarium in Varna as our trip there had to be cancelled. Bulgaria was an eye opener to us we did a great deal in the two weeks we were there but we won't be back.

We’ve just returned from a weeks honeymoon in Sunny Beach and we had a great time. (20/9 – 28/9/04) The Grand Hotel offers great views over the Black Sea coast, the sunrises (if you’re an early riser) and sunsets are absolutely breathtaking. Staff at the hotel were so friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them.
There was always a wide variety of food available, being served buffet style you could have as much as you wanted, and whilst it was not always piping hot (the Bulgarian custom) there was always the microwave to heat it up. For anyone that didn’t like the cuisine, there are plenty of high quality (but still cheap) places to ([+]view more) eat out including Chinese, Indian, Italian and a McDonalds restaurants. I took Jo out for a Birthday treat, three course meal, bottle of good wine and floater coffees cost me 60 Lev’s including the tip (about 22 pounds sterling)
The pool, although shallow (remember it is a family hotel with quite a few kids) brought cool relief on the hot sunny days as we sat around the pool enjoying the sun and a drink from the 24/7 bar. We didn’t have too much trouble getting a sunbed and although a few Germans did try to monopolise them, the pool attendant regularly removed the towels off of those sunbeds that hadn’t been used for a while.
Many of the local business stayed open 24/7, and although the hotel is central and very close to many of the local attractions, the beautifully spacious, air conditioned and daily clean rooms were double glazed, so you were never disturbed.
The weather during our stay was great, we did have one day where it rained for a short while but it didn’t last long and only served to freshen up the air.
MY TOP TIPS:
1) There are some great street artists who, working from photos, can produce very realistic individual or family portraits in oils, pastels or charcoal at bargain prices. If you ever wanted a special family painting to hang in your home then go prepared and take a few family photos with you.
2) TRAVEL LIGHT because things like leather, pottery, jewellery and even suitcases are really cheap in Bulgaria. We ended up buying a couple of extra suitcases while we were out there and if we hadn’t taken so much stuff with us we could have brought a lot more home. Take a few essentials in a holdall and buy what you need out there.
3) Even though almost everyone you’ll come into contact with will speak at least a few words of English, German, Italian and French, take time to learn a bit of the lingo, especially the word for thank you (Blagodarya), the locals really appreciate it and it goes down a treat.
We’re already planning to go back next year which is a testament to the fantastic time that we had.

We have just returned from 2 fab weeks in Sunny Beach..
The Grand Hotel is a great place to stay - very central - beach on your doorstep.
The hotel is one of the friendliest hotels we have stayed in a long time. The food was good and varied - something for everyone.. Rooms lovely and spacious and very clean!!!! Only comment and it's not a criticism-the pool area is small and it's survival of the fittest to get a sunbed!!!! and we can't blame the germans here -the brits were to blame... play fair guys if you book a sunbed @ 7am in the morning at least lie on it for the day.... We preferred the beach which is a stone throws away - you could ([+]view more) sit on your sunbed all day and be fed and watered by the guys on the beach who served everything from Nescafe -Ice-cream..
Sunny Beach as a resort has everything from birth - blue rinses.. It's a great resort which is buzzing 24/7... Excellent for famalies - Great value for money -would go back in a minute..
If you go -must visit The Pub @ Grand Hotel - mad friendly bar staff - good food - great night.. Special mention to Luke, Peter, Maya, Mitko and Yana..

I spent a week in this hotel in late June. Found it clean and well fitted out with fair sized room and bathroom. As food was served buffet style it was not always very hot but a microwave was available to heat up your plate. Complaints about the rubbish being removed in the morning puzzled me. Are the rubbish not removed where they live? Found Sunny Beach paths and streets very clean.

i am 11 years old and myself,my 2 younger brothers and my mum and dad went here for 2 weeks last june and it was excellent. The waiters were the most friendliest ive ever met and so were all the bulgarians they were so helpful and kind. the pool was quite big there were lots of children around my age to play with. the food was ok, there was always sumthin i liked. there were lots of things for everyone to do, we were never bored. we all really loved it and the hotel was very clean. the weather was lovely. it was very cheap and that made mum n dad happy. in fact we are going back to bulgaria in 2 weeks time and we cant wait although we are trying ([+]view more) the kalina gardens this time as there was no room left here. mum says she just hopes it will be half as good as our stay here last year and she will be happy. so in about three weeks i will be posting another view on the kalina gardens. mum and dad says if you have not yet been to bulgaria then you must and if possible you should stay here at the sani beach. you will keep returning i promise cause we will not go back to spain or anywhere else after coming ere last year. fantastic holiday the best we ever had.

We stayed at the grand sani beach hotel for two weeks on the 5th of july 03. We had a great holiday couldnt fault the hotel or the staff, the food was ok, there was various types of food including chips for breakfast. the staff at the pool bar were really friendly and they have good happy hours! the resort itself was excellent with cheap bars and restaurants to choose from, our personal favourite was sharky's bar on the main road (very good value, friendly waiting staff and good music). we had such a good holiday were going back to the same hotel this year, we didnt take our kids last time but we are this time, plenty to do for them in the resort. We stayed at the Grand Hotel Sunny Beach from 26th May to 2nd June 2003.  We were pleasantly surprised at the condition of the hotel especially when we realised First Choice had anything to do with the hotel as we swore we would never deal with this company again after a bad experience on our honeymoon.  The place was gorgeous and the staff were very friendly and had plenty time for our 4 yr old daughter, the rooms were spacious, comfortable and spotless, the only draw back was the food which was a bit of a let down but edible, they had a varied choice and you could always find something to eat, the chicken noodle soup and cream ([+]view more) cakes compensate the rest of the food.  As for the mafia staying there, my husband and i joked about this but i can see from other peoples comments that they also thought this, however they did not bother anyone and were actually quite friendly.  The whole staff in the hotel could not have been any nicer, I agree the resort is not as cheap as the brochure states but it is still a lot cheaper than most places.  I would definatley go back and book into the same hotel but I would take extra money for eating out.  The people in this country are friendly and welcoming.  A word of warning.. on the way home the rep on our bus stated that you cannot take levs out of the country and told us to exchange our money as the duty free in the airport would not accept them, just stirling, this is rubbish and you get conned out of most of your levs when exchanging them.  I exchanged 37 levs and got £12.00 back, I could have bought cigarettes for 12 levs for 200 in the shops on the beach front so I imagine they would be cheaper still at the airport.  Spend your levs, don't get conned out of them.

Myself, my husband and child aged 6 stayed at the Grand Hotel for 1 week on the 8th September this year. The hotel itself and the staff you could not fault. Well, as for the food it was disgusting and anyone that says it was ok, what do they eat at home? The food was always cold and as far as standards are concerned it must be about 10 years behind. Our First Choice Rep was from Bulgaria and she said the same, which speaks volumes. She agreed with us that the Restaurants were up to speed with the English, hence that is why we ate out all of the time. As for the weather we got one day out of the week which was hot and sunny. Do not go in September. ([+]view more) The locals must have made a bomb out of all of the tourist as we all spent our days buying jumpers and coats to keep ourselves warm. As for the resort itself it was very nice but when you have to sleep your days away to keep out of the cold it is what you call a holiday from hell, never again.

We have just returned from the best two weeks we have had in years at this wonderful hotel. The foyer was breathtaking, the lounge bar very relaxing. The food was not quite our cup of tea but ok at most. Sorry that there was nowhere for the young children to hang out but ours managed to make their own club house on floor 0. Lots of interesting people living next door i,e big burly bodyguards and important looking men. Did enjoy it when they all wore the same shirt and shorts to walk someone to the beach. Thank you for a great holiday and the staff at the pool abr where great Yarna, Mira and Stefan.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Sani Beach for two weeks from 21st July to 4th August. Two adults and two kids. Our first time in Bulgaria. We didn't know what to expect. The brochure picture of a Pink and Steel building left us with reservations.

On arrival at around midnight we were the only family to be dropped off at the Grand Hotel. We were well impressed, as soon as we got off the coach a young man with a big smile greeted us with a trolley and un-loaded all our heavy cases off the coach and took them up to our room.

We were told by reception that the buffet had remained open for us, as they were expecting us to arrive late ([+]view more) and we could still get some dinner until 1am.

We were really impressed at how clean and shiny everything was in the lobby and reception area and the lobby bar was bright, nicely furnished and welcoming.

We went up to our room on the 6th floor probalbly the best height ( not too high andnot too low to have views obscured)we had booked a suite because we had two children - this was not just a bit of an area with a sofa bed (as we have found in previous hotels we have been to in Spain and Greece etc) it was two adjoining rooms of the same size but with just the one large bathroom to share. Both rooms had patio doors leading onto the double sized balcony which overlooked the beach and Nessabar in the distance (lovely view). The rooms were nicely furnished with Mahogany doors and furniture, Cream Walls and Green Carpets and Curtains the bathroom was really nice tiled with a full size bath and shower over the bath (the only down side was there was no shower curtain or screen so the water went all over the floor onto the tiles when you took a shower and you ended up having to use towels to mop up the bathroom floor every night - but it didn't really bother us, it soon dryed)Atleast we could tell if my son had had a shower !. Both our rooms had seperate aircon units so it was lovely and cool. Took the key off the key fob as the electric only works when the fob is plugged into the wall socket.

We went down to get something to eat in the hotel restaurant (it was about 12.30 am by this time). A lady from the hotel showed us around the buffet and left us to have our supper. We found the food to be very nice and tasty and could not complain at all about what we ate, there was always something to suit every taste and the soups were really nice and there was a selection of salads - even the kids enjoyed the food and my daughter can be really fussy. The breakfasts were okay, even though the bacon was fatty and sausages were German the fried eggs looked a bit anaemic too, but they never are wherever you go - there was nice crambled eggs and omlets (yes crambled is what they called them which was quite amusing) and fruit, cold cheeses, ham lots of different breads and cakes, jams etc. Nice coffee/hot choc from the Nescafe machine.

The restaurant has patio doors which open out to the Swimming Pool and Terrace where a musician plays the organ and sings romantic songs whilst your eating dinner in the evening which was a nice touch and not too loud just a nice background for whilst your dining, and some of the more mature people sat on the pool terrace and danced later after dinner. There is a pool bar at the far side of the pool which is next to the pedestrianised promenade which seemed pretty busy and lively with people of all nationalities sitting around the bar on stools drinking and having a laugh together, we found out later that this bar did not belong to the hotel and it was just rented from the hotel but run privately. (there are two lovely young waitresses who work at this bar one of whom was blonde and really beautiful she reminded me of Pamela Andersen and she was a lovely mannered girl as well).

As far the pool - it was okay but not very big and it did get a bit crowded on occassions (but it was the school holidays so it is to be expected). It needed cleaning more regularly really. There was also a sharp edged under the water on the corner of the step where there used to be a swim up pool bar. In our first week we could get up at 10am and still easily find some sunbeds but on the second week the hotel got more crowded and you had to be up at around 8ish to get a sunbed. Mondays and Tuesday mornings the pool was quietest as Monday is a massive changeover day. There is a lovely young lad called Petar who is one of the waiters at the pool and he is always smiling and wanting to chat to you.

As for the resort - it was great - lovely beaches and warm sea. A great atmosphere in the evening and there were some lovely restaurants and bars We met so many people. I can recommend the Condor Bar which is on the main road which runs accross the back of the resort, go past the Kuban Hotel on the main pedestrianised street (which you can't miss) upto the main road. turn left, cross the road (but be careful its a bit mad!), pass the skybar and the Condor is just a few yards after the Skybar set back a little off the main road. The drinks here are so cheap and the cocktails are lovely, nice music and atmosphere - lot of locals go here (not like Greasy Greeks, just good looking Lads and Girls) as well as holiday makers and Mac from Oldham is the seating manager on the door.He is married to Yjana who is Bulgarian and they came and sat with us most nights when they had finished work at midnight.

The Victoria Hotel, just two doors down from our Hotel had a live singer doing sets from 6 till midnight, she was pretty good and the bar was lovely and modern. The Victoria Palace Hotel has some lovely spotless pools and a great swim up Bar - worth a walk up but it was probably twice the price for drinks. Get what you pay for I suppose.

Get a taxi to Southern Nights for a great show or the Dolphin restaurant, the hotel will book it for you. you have to eat at the Dolphin probably 40% more pricey but Southern Nights you can go and just drink - prices were fine there - great Family entertainment.

Anyway I could go on for every but I'm sure you must be falling asleep by now - yawn, yawn, but my final and most important comment is The Bulgarian People are the most lovely, friendly, genuine people you would ever want to meet (at least the ones we met anyway)!!. I would not hesitate to go back.

Andrew

Just returned from 2 weeks at the Grand Hotel. Rooms were excellent, we were expecting one large family room but got two interconnecting rooms with a balcony, bathroom, TV, minibar and aircon each. The double glazing kept out all the noise from the busy area and our kids never failed to have a good nights sleep. The hotel has a good central position with friendly and helpful staff and was constantly being cleaned. Biggest drawback was the evening meal which was repetitive with no choice for children but there are loads of cheap places to eat out with a great pizza place out back. We had the mafia living next door but we were told it was probably ([+]view more) the safest place for miles because of this...personally I found them OK. The beach is clean but busy (as is the whole resort) and the sea is warm, clean and gently shelving so relatively safe for kids. Despite not being as cheap as some people had said it was still great value for money, far cheaper than the med and I have every intention of going back.

We stayed at the hotel for 1 week from the 7th July 2003 and had a fantastic time.  We were a bit worried because of some of the reviews of other Sunny Beach hotels but were pleasantly surprised.  The hotel rooms were lovely and the air conditioning a welcome bonus.  We enjoyed the food on offer, which was different every evening, lots of people were complaining about it but we had no problems at all,you can't go to a foreign country and expect British food, its not Britain!!!  The pool was great, as was the pool bar which offered excellent cocktails.  My advice is if you want a luxury break with ([+]view more) English food all the time don't go to Bulgaria, but if you want a sunny, fun, relaxing holiday this hotel and the resort are great for you.

In contrast to other reviews I've seen. We stayed at the hotel for two weeks from 7th July 2003. We found the rooms to be comfortable in terms of size and amenities. Despite double glazing, the room was very noisy due to the amount of competing music from the numerous beach bars.We also had the mafia living next door and eating in our hotel restaurant which was intimidating. the food was average but there are literally hundreds of resturants etc in the resort to choose from. The best being by the bus station and market place. The pool area was open on view to all the passing shoppers, their were broken metal rods on the area around pool which were ([+]view more) dangerous. The beach is lovely and sea very warm. May be our experience would have been different if we'd have gone earlier in the season. Unfortunately we left the hotel disappointed about the hotel surroundings and the in your face corruption which we were not expecting. Our first choice representative was very good and didnot keep trying to sell us trips. The best rate for changing money was the crown money exchange booth next to the Victoria Hotel.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks from 23rd June 2003 and it was everything we wanted, the perfect beach holiday.  We felt that the overall choice of food was poor for 4* half board, but the restaurants in the resort, provided a cheap alternative.  Plenty for all ages, you could be as active or passive as you wanted to be.  Highly recommended.  The only down side was the flight with Balkan Airways!!! Very basic indeed.

Have just returned home from the Grand hotel sani bach in sunny beach on 20 May 2003, and had a wonderful time, the staff treated us excellently, rooms were spotlessly clean swimmind pool very clean. Food in the restuarant was excellent. I was informed by our tour operator before we travelled that building work was taking place in the vicinity of the hotel and that it would affect us we saw hardly any building work and there was no noise whatsoever do not be put off from travelling to this hotel by the building work that is supposidly going on all in all I would rate our experience of the hotel and resort 9 out of 10 excellent.
