Mum and Dad stayed here in September 2004 after finally arriving at the hotel at 1.30 in the morning they checked in. Within the first 5 minutes of being in the hotel they were mugged by a person the locals describe as a "gypsey woman". So much for the 24 hour security. Not only did she take all their holiday spends she badly injured mum and dads friend who had to have hospital treatment and have her leg in a brace for the whole of the holiday. Not a nice place to visit the markets were rife with muggers and thieves. Please be aware if you are thinking of staying here. My mum and dad are in there 60s and dont need this when they go away.

It was our first time in bulgaria dana palace was alright we went on allocation. the hotel was very clean the staff were friendly well sometimes, the bar staff were the best. The hotel is up on a hill not good if you can not walk far. there was no entertainment and not much to do if you want entertiament you need to go into the resort But be ware at about 8.00 every nite the main street is home to about 40+ street girls selling them selves this was very off putting considering it is suppose to be a family resort it was tolerated by the locals but not good for the people on holiday I do not think I will be going there again.

My partner and I have just returned from 2 weeks at the Dana Palace Hotel and we think its a great place. Our room was of a good size with contemporary stylings. The balcony was a nice size and very pleasant to sit overlooking the pool, with a drink and a book. It was cleaned every day but the towels only changed 2-3 times in 2 weeks. The pool area is a great suntrap, and with 2 bars and attentive waiting staff it's certainly not underused. My only complaint of this area would be the music policy; maybe 30 different songs, played over and over for two weeks is not my idea of fun ( I hate that bloody frog)! Occasionally, there would be different music playing from 2 bars and if you were sat in the middle of them it could easily drive you to insanity (imagine the crazy frog in one ear and Phil Collins in the other, oh the agony).
The bar area is okay but nothing special, staff were lovely, though. The restaurant was pretty good but nothing special, although the staff were usually smiling and attentive and the area kept clean and tidy. We thought an outdoor barbeque in the garden/dining area (not uncommon in Bulgaria) would draw people from the outside and make residents around the pool very hungry and more tempted to eat at the hotel. Again, the only problem I had with this area was the house band. They played very loudly, very badly, very often. In fact, I believe they put people off from eating and drinking at the hotel. Either get a decent band (there's no shortage of them in Golden Sands) or employ a DJ that can play for a wide range of people. In fact, a peruvian panpipe quartet playing Guns and Roses would have been preferable to the tone deaf duo playing Una Paloma Blanca, especially as there was no escape from it, even with closed, double glazed sliding doors.
Overall, I would say this a good 3 star hotel with shiny, happy staff, in a nice quiet location. Unfortunately, if you find walking up a hills a difficulty I would say avoid this place as its at the top of one, maybe 10-15 minutes away from the front. But there's always taxis.
