Number of Tourists in Bulgaria Down 7,8% in 1st Half of 2009

The number of tourists visiting Bulgaria has gone down by 7,8% in the first half of 2009, the Deputy Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism, Ivo Marinov, informed. The 7,8% decrease in the number of tourists and profits from tourism is compared to the same period of 2008. Marinov, who was in the Black Sea capital Varna Thursday to participate in the discussion "Problems of Bulgaria's Tourist Sector and Possible Solutions," said that official data about the summer season was not yet available, but a lower number of tourists was to be expected. In addition to being the main problems faced by the Bulgarian tourist sector, poor infrastructure, infective advertisement, and beaches' concession, are the main factor for the decreasing number of tourists, Marinov said, adding the forthcoming division of the country in tourist regions would be one of the ways to deal with the issues.
