National takes its cue from time-strapped travellers


National Car Rental is rolling out its ‘key locker’ service for business travellers to ten more airports in 2008 after ‘positive’ feedback from corporate clients. The key lockers enable business travellers to bypass the service counter, gain secure access to their car keys and rental agreement. Clients who have made their reservations online or over the phone swipe their credit card or enter a pin number to open the locker.They were initially trialled at Stansted a year ago, then introduced at Luton and Birmingham in June. The lockers are part of a number of developments specifically for business travellers such as its online self-service rental option and e-voucher system. It has upgraded its National Drive Safe website, aimed at giving country-specific driving information, with advice for those taking to the road in Bulgaria, Lithuania and Jordan. The Drive Safe site is now also accessible through partner BA’s website. The company says it has reacted to the demands of the business travel community, particularly in light of the shift towards corporate responsibility and demand for speed and efficiency of the car-rental process.Director EMEA corporate marketing Rebecca Madden said: ‘National’s goal is to provide businesses and their travellers with the right tools to make sure they can use car rental efficiently and safely wherever they might be in the world. We have made considerable investment in a series of initiatives that focus on driver safety and efficiency’.
